Miniature Weapons in Roman Britain
While at the British Museum a while back, I saw this little guy. The description says that miniature weapons like these were popular votive offerings in Roman-era temples in Britain, particularly spears and axes. The fact axes were suppose to common at these founds struck me as a bit odd, since its generally thought the British (or the Romans for that matter-- but assuming this spear on display is typical, they're using the old Celtic types) didn't use axes as weapons in war. I emailed the British Museum for more information back in August, and haven't heard back, so I thought I would start asking around to see if anyone had information on them, or where I can read up on them?
Re: Miniature Weapons in Roman Britain
who did you email? I may be able to suggest some more targetted email addresses if you just used a generic one
Re: Miniature Weapons in Roman Britain
I first contacted Coins, the address suggested for the Citi Money Room (where it's on display), and they told me to contact the Portable Antiquities at info@finds.org.uk, who I'm waiting to hear from.

Go to the PAS database and use "votive" and "axe" as search terms.
