Water Bottle Covers

Postby eight pence a day » Tue Mar 19, 2013 2:05 pm

Hi Folks,

Im doing a WW1 Australian impression and have a couple of water bottles that need new covers.
Can anyone tell me where I can get these from? The only place I've found so far is What Price Glory. Alternatively where could I get correct cloth to make my own.

Any and all help/advice welcome.

Many thanks

I had the same problem a couple of years ago, and eventually bought two from the following Ebay seller:

He doesn't seem to have them listed for sale any more, but a quick message to him might establish whether he still makes them or not.

A somewhat alternative approach might be to get a leather cover made - Australia seems to have made some use of these during the war, eg:

Interesting leather cover there.....I wonder if this was to go with the Australian 1915 leather webbing or was simply to save on cloth. From the bits i've read they did struggle with cloth supplies at times, with some jackets fading to a weird sort of grey colour. One thing they didnt suffer shortages of was leather. I'll see if I can find out more about that.
I'll send that french chap a message and see if he can help me too.

Many thanks
