The hatch was shut when we hit it - I believe the force blew it open!!!
No - they were told to button up when they parked on the bridge..... Driver wearing full helmet and goggles decided he was sufficiently protected by upright hatch.
(trade secrets here) The charge was suspended at rack height about 1.5m from the vehicle. Fireball and resultant black smoke cloud completely enveloped tank and to audience (300m away to left of tank - our right in photo) it looked like a direct hit. Then a black smoke and a secondary explosion kicked in and the tank seemed to burn for a while.....
Steve - Against a schreck or a Faust no known tank including the German ones was impenetrable. The trick was getting the range right. I know a veteran who hit two Shermans front on with Fausts.... Both instant kills.... Straight in the front plate. I know another who hit a Cromwell amidships with a Schreckround and it popped the turret off the race!
It's all about giving the audience the "Wooo" factor. That particular set piece certainly does. Next year our Nebelwerfer will probably be the party piece... Six huge smoky screaming rockets climbing skywards to over 800ft...... Mmmmmmmmmm

The effectiveness of infantry anti tank weapons is down to the design of the projectile - most were shaped charges where the front of the explosive inside the warhead has a conical depression in it (to simplify) - the cone focusses the force of the explosion and creates a small hole in the armour - this is made by melting the metal and spraying it inside the vehicle along with the explosive gases - technically a vehicle could survive if the jet of hot stuff didn't hit anything vital. ammo or the crew - if you fire it into the turret area and the jet hits the ammo then the whole thing goes off. Modern shoulder fired anti tank weapons work the same way - the delights of firing Karl Gustavs (the modern equivalent of the panzerchreck).

Duve..... I suppose it must be - We do have some bike and sidecars..... But we seem to attract people who like BIG toys.... one member is at present looking into the feasibility of BUILDING a replica StuGIII and we are chasing another tank..... (or three)
Did I mention we have a PaK 40 75mm AT gun? I'm sure I must have.....

Then you get the fun of the minnie combined with a natty half track! - any chance of a cabbie??
