Rocroi 1643 - 2013
Just heard about this proposed event in May next year. Sounds like it might be worth a trip. Anyone going?

Looks like fun. English observers possibly....
But certainly not the demonic Spaniards. Maybe German or Walloons, they run away towards the end so you could get to the beer tent earlier....

I was tempted I have to say...
Young men have often been ruined through owning horses, or through backing them, but never through riding them: unless of course they break their necks, which, taken at a gallop, is a very good death to die

Looks like ECWS are taking a team. SK must be? I emailed the organisers ages ago but had no response.

Well up to 150 Sk / ECWS types will be maning the trenches at Grolle this coming weekend ,, either
defending Spainish honour the `Red Regiment` mainly , or freeing the Dutch from Spainish oppression
`Lord Ceicils`, about 90+ booked in ,,, plus odds n sods who travel under thier own steam and just join in .
There will be around 600 to 700 on the field / in the earthworks ,,
So `Yes` there will be a British presents at Rocroi ,, Lord Ceicils was invited over 18 months back .
Its the next one to sort out after this weekend ,, though numbers will be lower as its in `our`
re enactment season , school exams etc .
Oddly , the Red reg are mainly from parliment and Ceicils from the royalist side ,,

From facebook today - B***cks! I expect it won't be the first casualty.
My dear friends, I am sad and angry .... I just learned that the French political authorities, who promised to subsidize the event of reconstitution of the battle of Rocroi in May 2013, decided not to grant subsidy promised ..... because of the economic crisis, the money is allocated to other use, so we have to cancel Rocroi 2013 ... we have worked hard to establish this event cultural and histori...cal ... all for yours ..... 25 groups were already registered and many others had to register .... it is a big disappointment for me and the entire team of Rocroy 1643 Rocroi 2013.
I ask you to accept my apologies for the cancellation, but without subsidy, it is impossible to organize such an event.
We do not let down the project for a subsequent year.

Yes, they want us to be Spaniards: I am studying the final scene of Alatriste very closely: On a more serious note we are putting together a list of pike and musket commands together with some choice oaths and insults
