European Martial Arts in Wales, UK

Postby Talen » Sun Aug 29, 2010 1:59 pm

Hi,

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong thread, I wasn't sure where to put it so placed in the section where I renact. I was just wondering if anyone knows anywhere where European/Western/English Martial Arts are taught in Wales? I've found one called the Academy of Historical Fencing http://historicalfencing.co.uk/rev/ in Newport, however I haven't heard back from them yet. Specifically I'm looking for somewhere that teaches 15th Century martial arts and I was wondering if anyone knew of any others in the vicinty of Swansea?

Thanks for your help,

Alun

This should be Nick and Michael Thomas club - they definitely know what they are doing, both concerning research as well as martial arts practical performance. They may be not specialising that much in 15th century, but there I could as well be mistaken. Definitely worth trying out!

Yep, as Wolfgang said, Nick and Michael know their stuff, and Michael primarily teaches 15thC German longsword and messer.

Also, I think the Glamorgan School of Arms meet in Swansea:

Ming runs the Grey School of Western Martial Arts -( approved by the Federation of Historical Swordplay )it has been in abeyance for a while due to pressure of work but he will be hoping to start it up again very shortly (having members is a good reason - most of the old lot finished Uni - Trinity and Lampeter and went their separate ways)- we are in Pontyberem so it could be run anywhere from Carmarthen to Swansea. He concentrates mainly on Fiore with a little bit of George Silver as well

I will give you his e-mail if you pm me
