New 5th Century Show for 2006

Postby Medicus Matt » Wed Dec 14, 2005 1:32 pm

Just a shot across the bows.

Our cavalry bods, Richard and Wendy Bonner have got a huuuuge new livery and training school in Hampshire and we're putting on a 5th Century show there next year.

It's all at the planning stage at the moment but we're thinking one day of show (cav v infantry displays, bit of a skirmish, all day crafts) party on the Saturday night, one day of training for cav and infantry on the Sunday.
Thinking of inviting a number of friendly groups, home and away, as well as traders, food sellers etc. with a view to turning into something big in future if it goes well next year.
Maybe build a gate and pallisade to storm and burn!

We've got four huge fields including one with direct road access for parking, plus a huuuuuuge indoor training school should the weather turn nasty.

It'll be 13th/14th May.

Who's interested? There'll be combat and craft from any and all aspects of 5th century life so we're inviting Late Roman/Romano Brits, Migration Period Germanics/Scandos, Picts, Scotti/Desei/Irish.....anyone of a 5th century persuasion really.

Trading will be on a "no fee, keep what you make basis". A similar event just up the road pulled in about 1000 MOPs for one day.

There will be plastic camping and authenti-camping.

Drop me some feedback here or by PM if your interested and want more info.

Cheers

Matt

watch out for the initiation ceremony

There’s a country in Europe where they treat their ex soldiers with pride no waits for medical treatment after injuries received during service, no amensia from the government. Cant for the life of me recall where it is but I know exactly where it is not.

Shhhhhh!

Don't worry, no one's died yet.
Quite a few have vomited horribly but nobody's died.

ah, that's it im wound up now and I have to wait 6 whole days before I can unleash my fury on you. Next week, I'll have the children, and you can have the roleplayers and I'll seek you out in the middle of it and we can settle this man to boy.

Hey Matt think that there'd be some Britannia members up for that. If it dont clash wth anything else we got then I'd be up for it definatley.

A gentle reminder is always useful as no mention in the last newsletter. He is more likely to remember if it involves a paddling pool and jelly too

The date might be a problem as that clashes with Cressing Temple - which is about halfway there to us Nor-Suf Folk*rs.

What kind of crafts are you looking for being demo'd at this event ?? is there a kind of dateline for goods for sale i.e. items relevant to the period ? :)

The date I had for Cressing was wrong - according to their website it is the weekend of 6-7th May, the week before Matt's prposed event.

Apologies for confusing things.

Right, the show is a definate goer so I'll be sending out some formal group invites this week:-

Britannia
Wulfingas
Ravens
Hounds

Anyone else?

I've not had any interest from traders, possibly due to the relatively short notice but, if you know of anyone who might be interested, give 'em a nudge.

This is the first real chance that us early, early medieval types have had in ages to get a 'Tewskbury' style show off the ground. Fun, fighting, craft stuff, trading etc so any and all support would be appreciated.

Ta muchly
