ACW "Soft Caps"

Postby El Frog » Sat Feb 02, 2008 12:23 pm

I've been commissioned to paint some ACW miniatures for a company, all (so far) Confederate. They are described as wearing "Soft caps" - not to be confused with kepis - and I'm not sure what colour to paint them. Should they be in Confederate "uniform" colours, or can I paint them any colour?

I shall try to describe them (until I can get a photo up, that's the best I can manage): they look a little like a modern officer's peaked cap, but the crown is a little bulkier.

Can anyone help?

Sounds like the old Mexican war forage cap(still used by some Militia) or it's civilian equivalent....Grey or Blue is good(!) for both or black for an oilskin cover.

Thanks for replying! I shall see if I can take a few photos of the miniatures later.
