Money for old rope ...
OK then - rope. Chatting to Conquest at Lanark, horse-hair rope was mentioned. In the c21 this is flippin' expensive, so does anyone have any ideas for fentik-stylee rope, and what materials would be used? I'm thinking for lashing lengths, so 30' +

There’s a country in Europe where they treat their ex soldiers with pride no waits for medical treatment after injuries received during service, no amensia from the government. Cant for the life of me recall where it is but I know exactly where it is not.

You want to be careful about that. I got a very undeserved reputation for being shouty.RottenCad wrote:...Chatting to Conquest...

Mainly Fox and Griff, I was Whispering Bob Harris in comparison
Anyway, I put it down to high spirits at a brilliant event.

They are 'authentic' but only for periods after contact with areas which grew coconuts (coir) sisal (African plant I think) and whatever they make manila out of, probably something from the Philippines. Medieval and early post med rope would likely have been hemp or linen (or possibly lime bast). Straw and other plant fibres like bramble could have been used for ties (bramble is still used by some hedgers) and I have uses willow withies for tying hurdles to posts to make a fence.matlot wrote:im not sure how authentic they are but coir, manila or sisal are natural fiber cordage or they can be passed of as hemp
Wilkes and Liberty, Wilkes and the Forty Five
more likely to be hemp as linen would be expencive or flax which is pretty much the same as hemp
