Anglo-Saxon leg wraps?

Postby Ulfcub » Wed Mar 23, 2011 1:11 am

Healsa all. I am a fairly new member of Wryngwyrm, the Bedfordshire dark age war band of TheVikings and i am portraying a Saxon (here comes the stick haha) and i am 1 of only 3 Saxons with 50 Vikingr in the group,i need a pair of leg wraps, and as the other 2 members cannot attend most weekly meetings due to work/familly commitments,i cannot ask them where in Odin's green Anglecynn (old Englisc England) i can pick myself some up...so i desperately need your help..especially as the new season is fastly aproaching us!!!

any pointers into the right direction will be greatly apreciated!

WASSIAL!!

somewhere I've got a set you can have (unused and still in the packing) made by HE

You can ahve em for a twelve quid inc postage

There’s a country in Europe where they treat their ex soldiers with pride no waits for medical treatment after injuries received during service, no amensia from the government. Cant for the life of me recall where it is but I know exactly where it is not.

I have always felt that the normal interpretation of these (ie cloth strips sewn together) was unlikely, due to the huge amount of work involved in weaving good cloth, then cutting it up ito strips and hemming the edges.

It is far more probable to me that they were woven as narrow strips, for the purpose.

The best way I found for getting hold of winningas/puttees/leg wraps, (as I switch between viking and saxon dependant on shows) is going on ebay and buying ex british army puttees. ww1 puttees for LONG leg wraps and ww2 puttees for short puttees that come about three quarters of the way up the calf. you can get them in a few colours (depending what arm of the military they were issued to) or just colour them yourself, or just keep them kharki like I have >:D. but they are relatively inexspenive, I think I payed about £4 alltogether.
