Postby The Iron Dwarf » Mon Jun 15, 2009 11:21 pm

this is one they have, a simple metal band and nasel piece and the rest is stout leather.
they have asked me to make the metalwork but I thought I would find out if there were any more wanted by others, should I make some to sell?

Just how stout is stout (the leather that is... )? If you look at my avatar, it is a picture of me wearing a leather helmet but with more metal forming a cross running front to back and side to side. The leather pannels are attached to this frame as well as to the brow band. This, I would suspect, would increase the overall effectiveness of the helmet at stopping a head shot (accidental or otherwise)
Also, the leather in my helmet has been treated in wax or oil to increase its rigidity - once again adding to its robustness.

The other point to make as well is the metal crossing the top from front to back and side to side enables the leather to be riveted on wich makes it more robust.

the leather is quite rigid and I was only asked to do the metal but I think like Neils Helm the metal bands over the top are desirable and it is not hard to make.
I will have words about this with the person concerned soon.
the one I seen had 3 panels but I expect 4 was more common like Neils.

thanx to Neil and Thrud for your help

You put them on your head and they stop it from hurting.

I think it is better if you put one on your head before it starts hurting, they work better that way rather than stopping it hurting once the hurting begins
