bronze age castings, Sorted

Postby cloudy-cola-corp » Wed Jan 25, 2012 9:00 pm

does any one know how bronze age castings were cleaned because im assuming that they had to get any waste from the mould off (excess clay ect) and also how did they clean up any spare bronze e.g where the mould doesn't touch perfectly and where the liquid metal is poured in

Any mould debris can just be washed out with water. Cleaning up casting sprue marks and flash is done firstly by breaking them off whilst the bronze is still warm, then grinding down with stone. Grinding and polishing is then done with stone followed by sand.
