As with my other book sale entries, these are offered as a single lot as I need the space!
1) The Medieval Cookbook
by Maggie Black. Well known volume, softback, in very good condition
2) Pleyn Delit
Medieval cookery for modern cooks. For the real nostalgia buff (and anyone planning a medieval fair or feast) this is a must.Paperback and in good condition.
3) Franklin 1786 - 1986 Food and Facts
No, not Benjamin Franklin but rear Admiral Sir John Franklin KCH FRGS RN, a Royal Navy officer and explorer of the Arctic. Full details on Google! He was born in Spilsby, Lincolnshire and this paperback volume was produced to celebrate the bi-centenary of his birth. It contains old Lincolnshire recipes handed down over the period plus what are described as "worldly" ones too, representing his journeys, explorations and world events. Slight wear to the cover otherwise very good condition.
4) Living and Dining in Medieval Paris
The household of a fourteenth century knight.
A warm and sympathetic account of living and dining in fourteenth century Paris based on the book written in the 1390's by the menagier for the instruction of his young wife.
Softback, Very good condition.
5) Take a Thousand Eggs or More
Two volumes, spiral bound, containing a collection of over 100 fifteenth century recipes translated from the medieval and adapted for modern cookery. Numerous woodcut and line drawing illustrations. Both volumes in very good condition.
6) Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management
This is an illustrated facsimile of the first edition. Softback, creasing to front cover commensurate with use, otherwise tight and in good condition.
7) Food and Cooking in Britain
This is an English Heritage collection of 7 illustrated booklets covering prehistoric, Roman, Medieval, and the sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. They are presented in a slip case which is somewhat grubby but it has done its job as the contents are in good condition.
8) Careme
L'Art de la Cuisine Francaise ua Dix-Neuvieme Siecle
An accurate and unmarked reproduction of the original masterpiece - but be warned - unsurprisingly it's in French!
