Looking for a group in London

Postby Red Pyrrhus » Sat Jan 25, 2014 8:45 pm

Hi, I am new to the forum and am looking to join a reenactment group.

I haven't been in one before but have collected a rather large personal collection and am keen to join a group and meet some new people as well.

I am interested in most periods, but would say I particularly have a fondness for the ancient world. I am a female and would prefer to be involved in the combat side of things rather than a civvy.

Any help would be great. :D

Hi there

How 'ancient' are you looking for?

There are a good number of Roman groups, and I am aware of at least one Greek Hoplite one as well.

Hey

I would be happy to look into either a Roman or a hoplite group.

Hi Alana

Have had a look through, but I don't think there are any Roman groups actually based in London, though I daresay they will have members living there (anyone reading this who knows better, please advise)

The only ones I am familiar with (who may be closest to you) are:

The Ermine St Guard - http://www.erminestreetguard.co.uk/ESG.htm

Legio II Augusta - http://www.legiiavg.org.uk/

Britannia - http://www.durolitum.co.uk/

I am not sure what the Guard's and Augusta's approach are in regards to female combatants are, but I do know that Britannia have them

In regards to the Hopite Association - http://www.hoplites.org/index.htm , I am not sure about where that stance is in regards to female combatants, but they do seem to have 'female' Scythian archers, best to ask them

Hope this helps

Brendan C

second the Britannia suggestion, I'd heartily recommend them as being very pro female on the gladiatorial side. The guard would not allow it. Leg IIAVG do have female gladiators too, Portsmouth area based.
