Central Scotland

Post by north_pole »

Hi,

I'm looking for a group based in central Scotland - ideally somewhere close but don't mind travelling. I used to do some re-enactments in past (XIV-XVI) but not for a good few years and never in Scotland! My partner has no idea what re-enactments are about but has an interest in history so I hope he'll join me :)

There is also the Northern Alliance (run out of Inverness, but membership the length of Scotland)
Alan Frize is involved with them.

Frasers Dragoons in the North East (ECW covenanters) (my favourites by far - great group and great people)

O'Cahan's Regiment - Montrose's Irish (Glasgow and Galloway)

Loudon's - more dour Covenanters - Glasgow

Young men have often been ruined through owning horses, or through backing them, but never through riding them: unless of course they break their necks, which, taken at a gallop, is a very good death to die

The Swords of Dalriada are a good re-enactment group based in Kilmarnock, about 40 minutes south of Glasgow. They do early medieval and Viking periods, and are branching into the 1st century Celts and Romans.

You also have Carrick 800, who are based in Girvan but the majority of the events we do are central(ish) Scotland as we do a lot for Historic Scotland. I live in Bathgate and get to 90% of the events we do. There's also Fire and Sword (based in Kilmarnock) and Historic Saltire (based in Inverness but with members all over Scotland) who work closely with Historic Scotland so will do at least a couple of events a year in the central belt.

There's a group that portrays Great War Gordon Highlanders, with members from all over Scotland (and a few from South of the border. Very south, if I'm being honest!)

Don't forget the Rifles. As the 1st Battalion of the 95th Rifles during the Napoleonic wars we have a Highland Company based in Scotland.
Pm me if you are interested.

Northern Alliance: We do mostly 15th century Lord Lovat of Fraser's men, we can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=140529866865 and here: http://northern-alliance.org.uk/. We ahve a pretty full calender of events for this year with events both in Scotland and England. The membership is from throughout Scotland, from Inverness to Grangemouth and Lanark and on and on!
