LEGIO VIII AUGUSTA MGV: 69-138AD

Postby squamatus » Wed Jul 07, 2010 12:44 pm

LEGIO VIII AUGUSTA MGV 69AD – 138AD

Roman Military & Civilian Living History Society

SHORT DESCRIPTION

We portray a Vexillation of Legionaries over in Britannia on detachment from the Rhine frontier, with supporting auxiliary troops. Our civilians depict local fairly Romanised British people.

We are based in North Wales, with members in NW England, Scotland, France, Switzerland & Italy as well!

Our website – http://www.roman.org.uk

Our Facebook page (for non-members) https://www.facebook.com/8legion

LONG DESCRIPTION

We are a small, but quality, society who have been on the "English Heritage Circuit" for about 15 years or so. We generally do around 10 public shows a year in the UK, plus numerous training days at various strategic locations.

We like to try out new things, rather than sticking to the same old performances year after year, and welcome ideas from new recuits as well as existing members. We make a lot of our own kit, which keeps the quality high, and will help new recruits with loaned equipment until they are able to get their own.

You are free to choose your own role within our society performances, within reason, provided it fits into our period, so whether you want to be a Roman, or one of the resentful and oppressed Britunculi, please get in touch!

I worked with these guys at Birdoswald last year.

VERY impressive legionaries & accessible living history, bloody good displays too!

After 22 years as a Roman reenactor, our Optio has finally been promoted to Centurion by popular acclaim! Given the tendancy for everyone to want to be somebody 'important', is this a record? :D

Some new boots for the new Centurion, based on the "Balmoral" type from Vindolanda.

Loving those boots, great work! Might one ask who did them?

http://www.griffinhistorical.com. A delicious decadent historical trifle. Thick performance jelly topped with lashings of imaginative creamy custard. You may also get a soggy event management sponge finger but it won't cost you hundreds and thousands.

Hi
Where and when do you guys meet?
When's your next event too?
I've spoken on here and at Nottingham armed forces day but time to take the plunge.
Cheers

I made the boots - Look up Rigorevali on Facebook, or http://www.rigorevali.co.uk

There are lots of very cool Roman shoes which I could make, but there is a lack of high status reenactors to wear them. I will probably just make some of them for display purposes when I get the time.

We'll be at Scotland's Festival of History, near Hamilton next. Please look at the 'events' list on our website as shown below.

Image

This is a picture of our Centurion in his complete kit (Facebook security settings permitting!) It took a bit longer than the original incarnation the day after his promotion! 8-)
