The Company of the Rose was set up by Martin Comber, Antony Wright and a few friends, after they left their original group. The group was formed in late 2009 with a small number of friends, but numbers are already begining to increase.
We are, (or will be), a multi-period group, but are primarily a 15th century "Wars of The Roses" group. As such much of our time is currently dedicated to that time period. (Please see the "Watch this space!" page for information on our future hopes). The Company of the Rose is based on a particular historic company, so any history of the group we present will be as acurate as we can research. However, where this history runs out we will create a ficticious and suitable background for the period we are representing. We have a collective interest in history as a whole and are continuing to gain further knowledge of different time periods. This does and will enable us to teach the general public.
Our aim is to take part in shows by joining with other groups to put on large mulit-group shows (such as Tewkesbury) as well as smaller shows run by ourselves. At these shows you will see us in our living history encampment with equipment from whatever historical period is right for that era.
The group currently contains folk who take on the roles of knights, archers, men at arms and camp followers. The later can be seen as those who would cook, mend, clean, play instruments, flag bearers and water carriers for the knights.
