The Company of Chivalry (1370)

Postby Aginoth » Thu Feb 18, 2010 10:17 pm

The Company of Chivalry
The Company of Chivalry is a historical re-enactment society dedicated to understanding and recreating the life and culture of the 14th Century. Members spend their weekends at castles and historical sites, bringing history alive and recreating life in the service of Thomas, Lord Hungerford, vassal of John of Gaunt circa 1370.

The Company of Chivalry was formed in 1988 by a group of people with a love for medieval England. Over the years we have developed a system of operating that has caused us to evolve from a small group to a well structured society of over 40 active members. Our aim being to recreate the culture and technology of English society in the late fourteenth century.

We are primarily based in the West of England, but have members all over the UK and several in europe. We attend events all over the UK and Europe.

Over the years we have developed a system of operating that has caused us to evolve from a small group of half a dozen individuals, to a well structured reenctment society of over forty active members. Our aim is to recreate the medieval culture and technology of English society in the second half of the fourteenth century. We are not just another battle orientated reenactment society but one just as interested in the social and practical aspects of our predecessors lives. The events we undertake attempt to mirror this twofold aim. Our reputation is a good representation of medieval life in the fourteenth century. This has enabled us to work for the likes of English Heritage, Cadw and Scottish Castles. We have provided several exhibitions for local museums across the south west, as well as filming for the BBC, HTV and many other video and film productions.

We are a family friendly group :)

I feel I should point out that we are employed by CADW as their trained seige engine crew and get to play with the full size seige engines at Caerphilly Castle fairly regularly - which is fun :D Not many groups get to do that. 8-) Obviously, all seige engine displays are combined with full Living History and Battle events at the Castle.

I remember fighting alongside you chaps at Caerlaverock several years ago and being mightily impressed with your kit standards.

we do our best :P

Actually, although it was always important to us to get the kit right, we've tightened up A LOT on standards since then, and our new authentiofficer has put in an awful lot of research to ensure we can explain why, how and what for everything.

Spent more money on new shiny sharp objects too :P :P
