leather work - need help fast!

Postby Sani » Wed Jun 27, 2007 6:12 pm

Hi there

I have a pair of 2nd world war officers riding boots, unfortunately my calfs are too big for the boots and Ive sent them off to "yee olde cobbler" in Pershore, who has stripped the seams from the boots in order to produce new seems which will expand the size of the calfs on the boots. However his supplier of leather is really crap; after the boots being sat there for 2 months he still hasnt done anything to them. Its getting close for when I need the boots (which will be July 15th as I have a wedding on the 18th in which I am to attend in said boots). Is there anyone out there who knows of a leather supplier? Or even someone who could modify the boots for me?

I really really need these boots for the 18th of July, and am desperate.

suspect sallie of pipistrelle maybe able to help

There’s a country in Europe where they treat their ex soldiers with pride no waits for medical treatment after injuries received during service, no amensia from the government. Cant for the life of me recall where it is but I know exactly where it is not.

They are most probably made with a fine box calf of that date.

Don't expect to be able to get it in a small piece though, it's usually half sides or upwards.

Not sure if Peter Prince http://www.peterprince.net is still working, but he spent a lot of time working for one of the oldest bootmaker in England and certainly would know how to repair them properly.

Thre's a thread somewhere stickied listing leather suppliers that would have decent box calf and might have a small offcut available. Metropolitan Leather might be able to help or LePrevo.

Try Midgeleys in Cheddar (on their trading estate)

Haven't got a contact number but they you can probably google them. They are a top notch leather supplier. You might end up buying a whole piece if you can't find anything in their scrap pile.

They are a couple of hours from you but Chedar is nice for a day out anyway. As far as I know they are only open through the week.

I'd also suggest sallie - she's a sadler so will have all sorts of leather in stock and is worth a shot.

email is pippistrelle[at]fsmail[dot]net (obv replce with relevent symbols - written like that so harder to harvest for spam)
