Re: Fabric Suppliers
Might I add Stuarts Fabrics on Leicester Market? No website or anything fancy unfortunately. He's the longest standing fabric supplier on Leicester Market, stands pretty much all week. The majority of the Leicester based reenactors will know him of course.
Very helpful, reasonable prices, good selection and wont BS you over prices or what he can/cant get either.

Re: Fabric Suppliers
Whilst I'm here, not strictly a fabric supplier http://www.kemptonantiques.com/ but a fair few stalls selling antique linen and hemp sheets, runners table cloths tea towels etc for reasonable rates and masses of other stuff to mooch round. Walking around at a fairly brisk pace pausing to buy some of the afore mentioned hemp sheets from this lady http://www.idachapman.co.uk/index.htm took 2hours and I dint see everything and was quite glad I hadn't taken more money as I'd have spent iton sword canes, muskets copper cookware, pocket watches, 18th stoneware, shoe buckles and snuffboxes and and and!
Another antique fabric seller with some very nice stuff is http://morgaine-le-fays-textiles.blogspot.com/ her blog and http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Morgaine-Le-Fay-Antique-Textiles
Just took delivery of some fantastic tickings and huge hemp sheet.

*Dribble* silk on silk velvets, cut silk velvets and other high end fabrics
Some are man made 'naturals' ie viscose (made from trees like cheap sausage skins, yuk!) so check first.

You are a horrid man, particularly for tempting me with the 'authentics' section

Here's another rather pleasant place though... http://www.marvictextiles.co.uk/

Couldn't someone - not me, incase I order something - ask about prices and post them here?

Re: Fabric Suppliers
Rang them up and asked about the pricing. Minimum order is one metre. Prices range from £50 to £205 per metre depending on complexity of design etc etc.

So maybe not curtains, but a hanging... I'll put it on the "I want some but can't justify it" list!

I was having little fantasies about finding a fabric that would work for a Jacobean embroidered jacket without me having to do all the embroidery myself

Re: Fabric Suppliers
John Lewis occasionally has crewel wool embroidered fabric in the curtain department - pop in when you come and look at my my book?

Re: Fabric Suppliers
hi, i would highly recommend Croft Mill aswell. We've used them for years and have some great fabrics. Also the daughter has taken things into the 21st century and they have a very useful website with pictures of the materials ( you used to just get bizarre descriptions!)

Re: Fabric Suppliers
Certainly Croft Mill if you know what you want - good source for fine cotton lawns and always worth a trawl for oddities.
When Dad packs in writing they are going to have to employ a copywriter - I used to love the printed lists he sent out with the tiny samples in the late 80's / early 90's.

Re: Fabric Suppliers
A little while ago someone posted a link to a company which was described as quite eccentric (it had lots of odd clipart’s and colour combination on their website). Although they didn’t have PayPal they still did postal orders, the post appears to have gone now but does anyone know who I mean? I remember they did very cheap felt.

Kochan and Phillips Historic Textiles: http://www.historicaltextiles.com
They're based in the US and UK, all their stuff is produced in UK to researched histiorical specifications, specifically for reenactors. Mostly woollen cloth for 18th & 19th C, but much of it suitable for earlier projects too. Their range is gradually expanding to include more fabrics suitable for civilian tailors, ACW, WW1 & WW2 etc. Some worsteds too.

Based in the uk fab where can we get stuff ? as I draw the line at importing uk woll back ino the uk
There’s a country in Europe where they treat their ex soldiers with pride no waits for medical treatment after injuries received during service, no amensia from the government. Cant for the life of me recall where it is but I know exactly where it is not.

Sean is based in Leicestershire when he is not on a tour of duty. His mum Maureen & dad (also Sean?) keep things running when he is away. They did their first ever market at the last ILHF.
