Short Sleeved Tunics.

Post by WorkMonkey »

Looking for evidence for short sleeved tunics in the 9th/10th/11th century, I can't think of any examples but apparantly there's meant to be some? Can anyone help out.

thanks.

Not aware of a single one. Sorry. Have to admit that first thought was ye gads nooooooo!!!

but haven't seen every bit of evidence in existence, as nobody can have, so is possible.

Seem to recall something for Hiberno-Norse types (poss, Iceland...) and Russian stuff - worn as a second layer not as a first. Can't remember and can't seem to find the references...so could well have imagined it all.

However, that should be a good place for you to start - def no shortsleeved tunics for AS types.

Yeah that's what I thought, I keep reading vague references about there being short sleeved tunics about but they're always described as "rare" and no sources are ever cited so I was thinking it may be a re-enactorism that's just been taken to actually be truth. Thanks anyway.
