Rucksacks

Postby FionaDowson » Sat Jan 16, 2016 1:01 pm

Am I right in thinking that one of the ice bodies had a rucksack with a hazel frame, pretty much like a rucksack we'd recognise?

Did everyone make a shoulder carry bag? Would children have always been carried like this (holding on to a chap's beard?)

Thinking about walking the Icknield Way and wondering about doing it in Saxon costume, just to see what this would be like. Any ideas about an early dark age rucksack? Leather, felt, woven, basket????

you may be thinking of the Otzi backpack, significantly earlier (chalcolithic) than your dateline so I wouldn't use it as a reference for a Saxon impression
