over kirtle question

Postby kate/bob » Sat Oct 04, 2014 2:28 pm

Hi,

I'm planning on hand making a new over kirtle for next season. Done lots of research on colour, lining, shape, etc. My last wonder is if it should be fitted with a lace or (like the one I've got at the minute) but loose enough to slip on with no laces. I've not managed to find anything contempory showing laces.

Thoughts please ladies and gentlemen!

That really depends on what period and region the kirtle is meant to be from, the social class you are portraying and where you want the lacing. Is this kirtle the kind that goes over a petticoat with a bodice, or is the kirtle the foundation garment itself?

....and so home and to supper, and so to bed.
