Does anyone have any info on a less posh costume? I'm looking to be a poor widow knitting guernseys for the men in Nelson's navy. I gather that I can buy a knitting stick from Alison and Hughs handmade things. Any hints on a dress? Do I need a shawl? What type of cap should I have? Does anyone know if I can get navy blue from woad? Does anyone have a link to a pattern for a gansey/guernsey jumper?

Would people in the 1790s/early 1800s have made rag rugs? If so, would this be with a bent nail rather than a latch hook type needle?

I thought I could also make fishing nets. Does anyone know anything about the type of tool fishwives would have used?

Any other ideas for a widow living in a fishing town during the Napoleonic wars?
