Whiter than white?

Postby Mike Garrett » Tue May 21, 2013 1:54 pm

Please enlighten me, Oh Forum...

How white was white, fabric-wise, between the periods of say 1000CE to 1600CE?

Contemporary pictures show pretty 'Daz'-like whites. I know you can bleach cloth in various ways, such as urine I believe and also lying the fabric on grass, but where they able to get a "brilliant" white or are we talking more of an off-white?

Thanks
