Any ideas on a 14th Century Jester Costume/Jokes??

Postby Jeremy » Fri Sep 23, 2011 3:31 pm

I'd like to get a 14th century Jester's consume for my reenactment, I could also do with any funny stories/jokes anyone has from the period.
Would be great if anyone could help point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,and welcome.

For the jokes, Google is your friend, to start you off-

For the costume, there are several costumiers who post on the site, if you wanted quotes, for advice as to what costume to wear, tell us a little more about your jester- is he to be a court fellow, or one who will be part of an encampment at events? Are you with a group yet, in which case they may have some ideas about how they may like you to look?

A merchant walks into the tavern and starts talking to another merchant.
"What is wrong with you friend?" he asks.
"I am troubled by my wife." Is the reply.
"Ah, wives I have had of three," says the first, " but all were sadly hung from a tree in my garden."
The other merchant leans in and asks " And what would a cutting of this miracle making tree cost me?"

Chaucer is a master of slapstick comedy (as was/is Will Shakespeare) it might be hard to "translate" that into audience friendly comedy
