Frances, that's a brilliant pic. Never seen this bagpiper before, but I know the feeling of carrying that much (too much) into an event.

I've seen copies of him at every event I've ever been to, but he doesn't have a sword, a dagger, an eating knife, and an axe hanging from his belt as well, so he can't be a real re-enactor.

Don't get me started :-x I hate the funking things. Even someone in beauforts livery was sporting one at Tewkesbury. If ever there was an argument for sharps on the field then surely 'scalping' fox-bummers is it

Trust me it wasn't a Beaufort, just one of the other groups wearing blue and white to represent the Somerset block

Perhaps we need a 'no soft and fluffies' check along with the pre-battle weapons check? :)

The chap is Till Eulenspiegel, trickster character from German folklore. I've got a jointed version of him on my office door that does a jig when you pull the string. He usually has an owl and mirror as his posessions and various bits hanging from his belt. Although I'm a bit of a bagpipe enthusiast, well maybe more than a bit, I'd never seen him with bagpipes before Frances posted this pic. But now spotted him as a statue, again with bagpipes on someone's Flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/phoenixesrose/1854779687/

Hi all,

This is another bagpipe player with a belt-load of stuff:

I'm not searching for bagpipe players, far from it, but they keep popping up.

I'm not entirely sure that is a medieval illustration, or that it's his belt that the stuff is hanging off, looking at it, it could be a rope waist tie on his backpack, it looks more like the shoulder straps than it looks like a leather belt.

Um, what's wrong with using a fox tail? I apologise if this question is answered elsewhere, but as I'm todays Noob (and this is my very first post), please be gentle with me! :D

Welcome to the forum, your question is understandable for a noob, as you describe yourself, because so many people pursist in this reenactorism.
If you put "fox tails" into the search option at the top of this page, it will take you to previous discussions had on here about the subject, which will lead you to the general conclusion that only fools or lepers or other such people wore them, even then only occasionally, and so it's best to just leave them off. There's plenty of evidenced stuffs out there to spend your time and money on.

Well, as I'm neither a fool nor a leper, (although I do have a nasty rash on my ...) I shall certainly refrain from purchasing said tool of Satan :D

Thanks for the links too!

I think I'm gonna like it here....

Actually, I have a rather nice white foxes tail, if anyone is interested. What they do with it once they have it in their house is entirely up to them!!
