Where to buy a scabbard

Postby Colin Middleton » Tue Jun 29, 2010 1:05 pm

One of our groups is after a new scabbard for his sword. He's wondering who makes them and how much they charge.

I'm not certain if he's after 15th C or 13th C or both (they are the two periods that our group do). He wants a good level of authenticity in the design, but he's not sure about a wooden core as he's worred that it will snap (the nature of our shows means that you need to fall in combat at least 3 times a day).

Can anyone offer any good advice?

Many thanks

Colin

Medicus Matt makes scabbards......well more works of art, things of beauty than merely a scabbard.

I've chatted to Matt on a few occasions and I'm very envious of his work, but I didn't know if he did High Medieval or later scabbards.

Thanks all for the tips.

I'll have a go at pretty much anything scabbardy if it's new and interesting. 13th C is easy (you'd want it to be hardened leather to cope with the suspension strapping though) and I'm working on some horrible complicated hanger thing for Mr TheGrips at the mo. 15th C...dunno, never tried. Show me a picture.

It's not that pink in real life...as the actress said to the bishop.
