Romano British costume links please!

Postby Kate Tiler » Wed Jun 03, 2009 2:45 pm

I've managed to end up with a week to make us both some vague Romano British outfits to wear into school, - has anyone got some links to sites where I might find an idea of how to make Charlie some Roman trousers & me & him a tunic each? I spoke to Steve Wagstaff's lovely missus & she helped me buy fabric but that was last October & I've forgotten what to do with it now!

It's only for a day, but I want to make us look different to our usual vague medieval outfits!

Any particular period from the 400 years of roman occupation?

Try The Vicus (link in my signature) for 1st century stuff, there's a kit guide and articles that go through making tunics etc.

We were thinking perhaps the last hundred or so years, when the British have got used to the Romans!

We doing a bit of cooking, bread making with my portable oven, and a bit of 'fake' mosaic work. It's for 4 classes of 8 children with special needs & severe learning disabilities, for a school where we are already working the previous day covering medieval leisure and the teacher has asked us to provide something hands on & Roman for the lower school. Otherwise I wouldn't normally do it, my knowledge of things Roman being what I've picked up on this website!
