pretty colours

Postby sally » Mon Nov 24, 2008 2:49 pm

just because they are there and I like pretty colours, here's the dyeing I did this weekend. Mostly silk yarn. Madder, a little cochineal, weld and indigo and the black/grey from galls and iron

I was pleased with the madder/cochineal combo, I have awful trouble getting true reds here though, its the water we're on and I'm too stingy to sort out distilled water to start with so reds tend to the orange most of the time for me

I know, my reds never turn out quite as I want them, hence noticing yours right away! I'd like to say its the water, but I highly suspect its just me who can't get it right!

Madder like a bit of chalk in the water, meks it redder.

That's my score to date. Three. I haven't killed anybody for years, and don't intend to ever again.'

Next time you buy a tumble dryer - get a condesing one - no tubes and loads of distilled water for you to use - free ( sort of I supposed)

thats interesting, I've never owned nor even considered getting a tumble dryer, but its useful to know that they can have a secondary purpose. Will try to find out if anyone I know locally with a tumble dryer has the sort that makes distilled water :)

We got one because we didn't have a vent to the outside - defo wouldn't swop back now.

You have to enter the water container after two or three loads - its good for car batteries too.
condensing tumbl dryer I think they are called

They are beautiful colours Sally!

Do you spin the silk yourself? What weight is it? I have been looking for some aran weight silk to knit with, but with not much success without the need for a new mortgage

I couldnt make it to ILHF, only Torm this year :(

I was hoping to see you at Torm, tho i was a bit rushed when I got there and couldn't find a stall I had walked past three times, so wasnt 100% sure if you werent there or I had missed you.

Will you be at the spring ILHF?
