There may be better books about the subject out there but I don't know how. Covers how archers were raised and employed by English monarchs and in foreign countries. The social and cultural development of archery as a national obsession. The pay, provisioning and expectations of service along with how bows were made and traded. Far more than just a book about archery it manages to explore a psyche that turned English archers into a force that was feared throughout Europe for three hundred years.
