Vietnam Infantry Tactics

Postby Marcus Woodhouse » Wed Apr 13, 2016 7:35 pm

Gordon L. Rottman illustrations by Peter Dennis. Isbn 978-1-84908-505-2. Osprey publishing (part of the Elite series) 2011.
Very poor. A real let down, not least because the author points out almost straight away that there were no set infantry tactics for the Free World forces serving in Vietnam. Countries such as the U.S. had global commitments and could not, or chose not, to draw up any specialized tactics for fighting a counter insurgency campaign.
As the manuals are easily accessible and free on line this book is just a clever way of removing your hard earned cash from your pocket. I bought this on the back of a recommendation from a friend . I have to say I now see them in a new light if he thought this was worth even what I paid second hand! Avoid it.

John A. English & Bruce I. Gudmundsson: On Infantry has a chapter on Vietnam War tactics, which may be useful in combination with the available manuals.
