Man of War

My adventures in the world of historical reenactment by Charlie Schroeder. ISBN 978-0-14-219680-9, Plume Books (part of the Penguin group), 2012.
Realising how little he knew of the past the author took it upon himself to immerse himself in it for 15 months by joint various reenactment groups in the USA. Not really a historical study (although I learnt facts that I was not aware of but a sympathetic look at why people re-enact the past. I found the journey he went on insightful and funny, and even though all the groups were American could not help but recognize so.e of the character types he encountered.
And like him I can't get my head around why anyone would want to portray SS.
