The Scarlet Contessa

Postby Marcus Woodhouse » Wed Jun 06, 2012 5:55 pm

by Jeanne Kalogridis, published by Haroer Books 2012.
I read the Borgia Bride by the same author a long time ago. This novel (which as usual is a mix of the well documented and the annoying, more fricking pockets!!!) is about Contessa Caterina Sforza, daughter of the Duke of Milan and one of histories unsung femine heros. Unlike Joan of Arc caterina for instance really did lead a cavalry charge, sword in hand (and she was pregneant at the time-although she was with child a lot, not least because she had dozens of lovers). At times quite sexually explicit (don't worry I made sure I folded the page corners over for you) I got annoyed by the mystical B***cks which involved secret occult teachings and the birth of the Tarot.
