The Secret History Of Joan of Arc and Yolande of Aragon. Nancy Goldstone, ISBN 978-0-297-86336-6, Orion Books 2011.
I am a big fan of Joan of Arc.
This explores and investigates the connection between Joan and the aunt of Charles VII. Basically it is the authors belief that Yolande was the secret patroness of Joan , who, through her son (who was Duke of Bar where Joan grew up) Rene was able to manipulate the Dauphin.
I found hers was a very credible argument which by no means detracted from the actions and capabilities of Joan herself, indeed her courage was if anything made more apparent to me as I read the details of her court case. If you have an interest in the strength of women in public and private life, reagrdless of what period you re-enact this is an excellent book to begin with.
