The hunt for Rob Roy the man and the myths

Post by Scottish Lady »

The Hunt for Rob Roy the Man and the Myths.
Professor David Stevenson.
ISBN 0859765903.
This book was first published in 2004, I'm just reading it again, is the first real study into Rob Roy by a professional historian.
This gets behind the myth of the Robin Hood of the Highlands, a minor figure in history but a major legend. By a great depth of research, and a wealth of detail, it shows the real man and his times.
Even if this isn't your period, it's still a fascinating study of primary evidence and the myth.
It's also very unpopular with the clan romantics, not only is Stevenson a traitor for writing it, I'm a traitor and a Pharisee for reading it!

I suppose I'm double damned. According to the 'Clan Bard' of the McGregor society, I'm like one of the Pharisees at the trial of the Messiah.
