Pavise - Oxford stylee

Postby gregory23b » Mon Sep 19, 2011 5:36 pm

A poster here commissioned this pavise for him, was aired at Bosworth.
He might have some pics of it to share in actual use.

Limewood
linen canvas, gesso, egg and size based paint.

Tawny for the background.
Figuring, different tones of the tawny plus highlights.
Boar - azurite blue - ground by me from Greenland and Game azurite, plus indigo for darks.
Varnish

That's mine that is :D Very pleased with it but I would not want to carry it too far! As you suggested I plan to add a handle - not sure yet if I'll go for a forged iron one or leather. A mate took some pics at Bosworth but has not sent me copies yet. I'll post some if suitable.

Thomas, you know about these things. What sort of handle would you recommend?

Is that leather? I hope so as I have a bit of thick buff strapping that would do the job.

Leather/rawhide not entirely sure. So long as it's rigid and will hold its shape.
