First try at couching

Postby Colin Middleton » Tue Mar 02, 2010 9:53 pm

I decided at Christmas to make myself a new livery badge and to try embroidering it. I did my research and found that couching was the most common way of filling areas like that (okay so underside couching is the RIGHT way to go, but this is my first try and that's HARD :wasntme: ). I bought some silk from the Mulberry Dyer (thank you) and set to work. I finished it last night and I'm feeling rather proud of how it turned out, so I thought that I'd share it with you nice people.

Matilda;

I started it on Christmas day and finished it on Monday night, however some weeks I barely got an hour at it, some weeks I managed to put a dozen hours or more in. I don't really know the total time spent sewing, just that it took me quite a while!

Gail;
They're fine! They've healed up several times since Christmas! :D

Really nice work.

Just shows you, the right technique and material yields great results, top stuff Colin.

I hope we will be seeing more of this in the future.

Beautifully done Colin - looks great! I assume you'll be doing lots more now?!

Pleased the silk worked so well too!

It's tempting to do more, I did kind of enjoy it! However, I've now got a livery coat to make so that I can wear it!

that is splendid. I had 2 years of sewing lessons at school to show me how utterly inept i am at it but, i did quite enjoy embroidery and i remember doing some couching - not half as snazzy as this though. :)
