Traders Pre-Show Ordering System

Postby Skevmeister » Fri Mar 24, 2006 9:52 am

Following on from and idea that Malias floated on another thread.

How many traders would be interested in signing up to a simple pre-show ordering system. Where you can actually have orders placed online and then you can log on or have emailed to you. So that youu can collate orders for stuff to take to shows.

I'll need feedback from those of you who are interested, this will not be show specific, so any trading markets you'll be at we should be able to work for it.

Just an Idea at the moment.

I'm happy to support a project. It would be useful to know any pre-orders so that I can get my stocking right.

Of course I always mention before I go to a show for people to send in their specific want but the topic get subsumed by the fashion of the moment - currently POLLS, was GRIPING was FILMS.

Having a sticky topic that helped all traders would be a useful place for customers to go.

It would certainly help us personally, especially if anyone had any specific or unusual requests. It's very frustrating to be asked "have you any *****?" when we saw some in a souk a month previous and didn't bother to buy it because we didn't thing anyone would want any!!!!
A good example of what did work was the sudden demand for sugar cones. Only I didn't buy enough of them!

I certainly think its worth trying. A few people who know exactly what they want will always preorder direct, but somewhere that a potential customer can almost browse through what might be available without having to know the name of the potential supplier would be very handy. So someone thinking "hmm, I know I'll need sugar cones and a kilo of softsoap but I won't be there until late Sunday" might not automatically know that they want to talk to Pete and to me to reserve stuff, but a place to get a quick idea of what can be preordered over a wider group of traders would solve that.

Yes think it is a good idea and would be interested.
If people want particular music/books etc can have them in advance for them.

Sally,

That could be a further ammendment down the line. Again anything to help the smaller traders who have neither the time nor money for a website but can actually have a web presence. I already know of something like this for the Electronics Industry.

Again, if your interested I could create a retail forum where you load your stock into it so that people can browse it.

A stunningly sensible idea, count me in to.

Idealy it should give us all a better view of a) what levels of stock to keep, b) what to keep in reserve for specific customers, and c) offer the possibility of floating ideas for new stock items and judgeing demand.

I remember at one event last year I sold out of Grains of Paradise by about midday on the Saturday, and then spent the whole of Saturday afternoon and Sunday kicking myself whenever folks asked for them (and a lot of folks did!).

Cool Miranda,

So its got legs then. Next thing to do is sort out a basic framework for requirements then.

I'll e-mail Martin and see if he is interested in something like this too.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Although I have pre order system already any thing that boosts business has to be a plus. Count me in.

Moved this to the new Traders forum as it seems the logical place for it.
