How about crudite? I think they mine it in French crud mines.

You have that really hard mineral, hammerite.

But you don't sell any of that quiet mineral, Sh-ite.

Here's a new one. Even I was gobsmacked, and I thought I'd seen it all.

Grafton Regis.

Older woman waltzes in with two little girls in tow.
I'm not unduly concerned, I get loads of them, they look at the jewellery, say, "I've never seen anything like this before, isn't it pretty" and walk out. Yawn.

Only this one grabs two sets of metal eyelashes (we're talking 65 quid a pop), plonks them on a little girl each and starts taking photographs. Without asking. I said "EXCUSE ME PLEASE?" and she just said "But they're so pretty....."

Nice.

Then she went to the stall next door and bought a "genuine medieval nylon" girl headdress made in China.

While she was still in earshot, I told my living history neighbours on the other side EXACTLY what I thought of people like her. And I have a loud voice.

If in doubt, add chili sauce.

Surely with something like that she'd have to buy them? Having put them on someone?
A bit like earrings or kernickers?

Hm. In theory. And how do I force them to do so? March her to the nearest cashpoint (probably in Towcester, a few miles up the road...?). She didn't look like she had £ 130 in her pocket in small change.

Instead, I use disinfectant (medical alcohol) and wipe the thing clean. And curse.

Point.

Hmmm...
Two suggestions spring to mind - big stick with a nail in it or take her children hostage until she coughs up.

Neither really practical nowadays I suppose......*sigh*

Guess you'd better stick with cursed disinfectant. :D

Some knowitallgobsh1te wot gets worshipped as a font of all knowledge by some in the 'nactment world took upon herself to come and loudly slag off some of the Mems stock, then got all huffy when I did the same to some of her dubious 'I'm the expert* therefore mines right' gear. I know I shouldn't've lowered m'self but if the daft moo would've ask we are more than willing to share sources and admit if it's based on an original or made for 'nactor fashion.

cheeky mutha !! Im referring to the chap asking Suzie at the weekend how we make things etc, general interest questions we get all the time, then he asked us what we put in things (peanut butters, vegan salamis etc) then starts writing notes while she's telling him, when she asked what he was writing he said he owned a cafe and wanted to start selling his own versions , cheeky twunt !!, she said she was happy to supply him but wasn't going to give him any more of our recipes, cheeky tosser !

The best for me was the girl who rolled up to my stall at Chester Roman fest and asked how much the Manx Loaghtan and Shetland sheepskins were - I told her and she said she can get them much cheaper at the pagan fairs she visits. I said 'Well good for you' - but these are NOT that price.

She then proceeded to tell me that she is a VEGAN!! and she only sleeps on natural things... hmmm.. fvk off...

I would have knocked a bit off if I was making a massive mark up; but I wasn't and she was very rude, self righteous and with an overblown sense of entitlement!!

If she was a strict ethical vegan she wouldn't even wear wool.
That's the problem with hippy-dippy people; they aren't even good radicals.

My more " serious" vegan friend is much easier to take seriously than lacto veggies who tell me they would prefer that the calf, needed to start the cow lactating, was kept until it died of natural causes. When you explain that in real financial terms this would make milk so expensive that they couldn't afford it, and the countryside would be over run with fields full of big old bulls, they look a little surprised.
Wool is a by product of eating sheep, no one could afford to produce just wool from sheep on a truly commercial scale at current prices for the fleece, which are laughable.
Proper vegans often have a much better grasp of environmental impact of our eating habits, and accept that if we didn't eat them, farm animals would only survive in zoos, but I still love the taste of the cooked beasties, so am not up for conversion.

I've yet to meet one, although I believe they probaly exist somewhere.

I've much more respect for people who think we should (a) eat less meat and (b) keep the animals that provide it more humanely (and live there lives accordingly).

Not any more they aren't price of wool and sheep is climbing steadily

There’s a country in Europe where they treat their ex soldiers with pride no waits for medical treatment after injuries received during service, no amensia from the government. Cant for the life of me recall where it is but I know exactly where it is not.

Wool fabric costs and meat costs are increasing as a result of increased production and labour costs. Unprocessed fleece costs aren't shifting; you can't give the stuff away (says the man with an attic full of bags of the stuff).

The increase in the cost of hogget and mutton is particularly annoying and is much sharper than the increase in lamb prices. My butcher tells me it's become popular of late after being promoted as a cheap alternative by telly chefs and prices have increased to match demand.
