Portrait artist wanting advice please

Postby wendell777 » Fri Jun 24, 2011 9:49 am

Hi all

I am an artist and I specialise in doing portraits of people in their reenactment kit (example below).

I don't really want to set up a website per se but wanted advice on how to advertise on here somewhere please? I don't take deposits and work from photos in oils or pastels. Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks all

Just curious as to why you wouldnt want a basic website to act as a gallery showing some examples of your work. It neednt be complicated, but somewhere people can get a sense of your range and style, and with your contact details. Then you could have a banner ad on the site to link to it

Only because I wouldn't want to pay at first to get one as I don't know if it would be worth it (I get all business atm from word of mouth). Also, I wouldn't have a clue how to set one up!!

Re Websites: Check our "Mr Site" takeaway website.
If ordered direct will cost you about £35 and that includes your own Dot Com and first year, but check ebay amazon as I picked up copy (brand new) for £12.
Its very simple to use and maintain
I am useless with computers but had site up and running within a few hours!

Or sign up for blog....

I quite like Live Journal but there are others.

It's easy to sign up for, relatively cheap and easy to use, it's bit like posting on this forum, probably easier when it comes to posting pictures.

Then you post works as you finish them, and that creates your portfolio.
[You could "tag" things to make them searchable, but you don't have to worry about that to start with.]

I use "Mr Site" too. Easy to set up and use. Cheap to!
