VAN TRANSPORT SHARING FOR EUROPEAN SHOWS

Postby Martin » Tue Dec 16, 2008 12:54 pm

Ive been discussing this with some other traders and we think it might be a goer, the idea is this, if there is a good show in Europe it can be very cost prohibitive for a single trader to do it unless they are sure of a very profitable show .
If for example 3 traders got together, shared van rental, driving, diesel etc it could make popping over to France , Germany etc a lot easier .
I propose a car / van sharing sticky on this part of the forum for us to try it, we and many other traders got battered this year due to rising travel costs, low turn outs at shows, appalling weather and any and everything we can do to cut costs and keep trading has got to be worth it.
Thoughts , ideas , opinions ? :)

Could be fun too, but I don't think I could even try to keep up with you, Angela and Hinnie Annie on the drinking- maybe you might need a quiet pompous one to do the driving?

What shows in Europe are people considering doing then ? we want to do
Pontoise (france) March 14th 15th (very very good)
Stercoff (Hinnie Annie will have to spell it correctly for me
 )
does anyone have any they could recommend ? or ones to specifically avoid
:D
This could even work for shows in the UK, two traders in one van cuts it all down by half , I know many traders do this already but if you have space and you want to fill it it might be useful to have a thread to let more than your immediate m8s know :D

Reenactment market in Avignon in March is anyone interested in going, Suzie may be doing this one and we're thinking 3 stalls in one van will make it viable, anyone else interested ? there is also another market 2 weeks later in Italy which may be worth staying over for instead of driving back and driving out again :D

Suzie will be going on her own then because pontoise is at the end of April.

Hi, I am having to take driving lessons (again) as I talked myself into a driving phobia and didn't drive for several years, passed my test some 13years ago after nearly two hundred lessons. I started trading last year and my ex. did the driving, so, with this in mind, if I were to buy a van, is there anyone who would drive it, want to share the space, obviously, I wouldn't expect the driver to pay petrol etc. costs as it would be helping me out, so, the driver technically gets free travel to and from trading events. The only problem I could see would be agreeing on the events to trade at. At the moment, I have a fair sized trading tent so maybe for smaller events this could be shared. I think that the only proviso would be that they have a clean license and would need to go as a Named Driver on my insurance. If anyone has any thoughts on this, one way or another I would welcome them.

You do need to be aware that some events organisers will not let you share tents, some do but it is something you need to know

For info only - not a cuba - don't want anyone to get in trouble
Do you need a CSN ( Carte de commercant non sedentaire) to trade at re-enactments in France?

Eric
