hi i have found a few 14th recipes which use marrows,im pretty sure sqashes and marrows are a new world crop and wasnt introduced till mid 15th am i know im not wrong about there origin but if these recipes are using marrows does this mean they introduced earlier, or there is european species or are talking about something else(bone marrow srins 2 mind) thank you

I suspect its mostly marrow bone being referred to, give us a sample reipe though, it may be more obvious in context.

I read somewhere that marrows were available 15c in UK. Standard ridge marrows.

Not necessarily 'new world'.............. having been growing then for centuries in Asia China etc..........on the trade & Crusade routes.

I'm reasonably sure that the medjeevils had gourds and squashes of certain varieties.

I shall check...
