Suppliers for an Edwardian larder

Postby Lady Wolfshead » Mon Apr 30, 2007 2:12 pm

I am trying to stock an Edwardian cupboard in an historic site in Edinburgh and I wondered whether anyone knew of some good suppliers of replica Edwardian packaged food or had any bright ideas for what I could stock the cupboard with. Any links, advice or information gratefully received as I normally dwell in medieval living history!

my great grandmother was the cook in a huge house up by Howarth but had moved on after marriage in 1900 so depending how accurate to the year you need your info I may be able to help with ingredients as I have her notes/recipe book from her time in service.

How lovely to have that! Have you tried any of them yourself?

We have recently acquired a list of handwritten recipes from the Atholl Crescent School of Cookery, where the staff were sent to learn Italian cookery, so that's probably as accurate as we can get. I'll be giving some of them a go but I was also looking for items that wouldn't go off that we could put in the cupboard as part of the permanent display. I thought perhaps the knowledgeable bods on this forum might know of suppliers of 1910 packet foods like Coleman's Mustard, Oxo and Typhoo Tea. Bit specialist I know but thought it was worth a go!

our local antiques emporium has old food boxes/tins etc I'd say circa 1910-20 want me to see what they have I can photograph them for you to see if there is anything you could use..

"its the bubbles.. they get lodged in me chest"
"mmm yes there's room for a few lodgers in there!"
