.....as the saying goes.
Back in the days before KP were around to tempt you to nibble on their nuts, if you had spent the day imbibing down your local tavern and needed something to soak up the ale before mounting your steed and trotting back to the missus, you cornered the serving wench, crossed her palm with pennies, and asked for a handful of her smooth, white orbs. I’m talking about a platter of eggs, of course, along with their perfect companion, a pinch of salt.
I carved this egg platter from beech over the weekend; I figured nine eggs would be enough for a couple of gentlemen after a day on the beer or the wine – six eggs seemed to few and a dozen seemed too many……

Ooh! May need to talk to you when I have some money, could really do with marchpane and quince paste mould in various shapes.
