Eating Elephants

Postby Theotherone » Fri Aug 22, 2008 3:23 pm

I'm being a bit lazy here, I know that they ate the Zoo in Paris in 1870, and I've found the Cafe Voisin Christmas menu, but I'm sure that I dimly recall another famous, more recent, instance. Vienna crossed my mind but I think that John Irvin's bears have got mixed up in that somewhere. Can anyone here think of another documented instance?

Thanks.

Because there would have to be three of them.

A guy I used to work with claimed to have eaten elephant trunk steak in southern africa (and dog in Mexico!). I can't see what is odd about eating jumbo. Now if you are talking about the banquets around the turn of the century where they served up mammoth then that's something else.

Ah - the eating of elephants was what started me off, what's bugging me now is not being able to remember another time when the zoo became a larder.

(I believe the critics were kinder about mammoth than elephant) :?
