Evening all!
If you find the title vague then let me assure you it was semi-intentional.
It seems in any movie where a battle takes place set in the era of sword-and-shield (historical, fantasy, etc.) the commands always have little counters, pieces, blocks, what have you to represent their troop movements.
I'm currently playing a D&D campaign with friends and we've reached a point where we too are looking over a battle map and pondering about an upcoming battle.
I think it would be quite fantastic if, for that, I could actually break out some little wooden pieces for me and the gents to use in this battle preparation - both for immersion and for making a childhood fantasy come true.
However, I've no idea what to look for. Chess pieces, counters, etc. seem a good place to start and no doubt end up but it'd be great if any of you lot could point me to something a little more suited to purpose.
Cheers!

Re: Wooden Battle Pieces
Not wood, and could just be painted one colour:

If you are keen on wooden pieces look at boardgames in charity shops for different shapes and sizes.
