Late yesterday, my great friend and inspirational mentor, Roger Lankford passed away.
He taught me about fairness and honour, bravery and determination, integrity and loyalty, and the value of fraternity, and all by simply offering me his own footsteps to walk in.
Rest well, Roger; you've earned it.

Re: The Passing of Roger Lankford
It was over 30 years ago Roger and his family welcomed me to the world of re-enactment and taught me which end of a sword to get hold of. Always generous with his time and willingness to pass on his skills, his sword "chivalry" summed up his attitude to life. I'm proud to have known him and called him friend. The world is a darker place without him.
I have a "weapons reach" attitude to authenticity.
If someone mentions the "A" word I reach for a weapon.

I didn't know him well, and it's good to see all the ways he helped people, how skilled and generous he was.
I did know him to be a patient and humorous dining companion, a gentleman.
Very sad to see him pass.

Another sad end of an era, I expect at this moment he's not just waiting at the pearly gates, he's convincing St Michael he can make some better ones.
http://www.griffinhistorical.com. A delicious decadent historical trifle. Thick performance jelly topped with lashings of imaginative creamy custard. You may also get a soggy event management sponge finger but it won't cost you hundreds and thousands.

This is very sad. I had the privilege of being with him several times, whether in re-enactment or out of it. He was, indeed, a gentleman, a true friend, a great human being.
Rest in peace, Roger!
