Hello - I've tried to access the Historic Castings site for their cauldrons but the domain name is now used by some-one else. Does anyone know if they are still trading? Thanks.

Think there is a possibility Roin has retired... but there are more contact details on the Histrenact site

If not, few casting people in Eastern Europe.

I'm sure I heard at torm a couple of years ago that they had retired.

I would like to know more about Eastern European castings, but haven't seen any traders bringing anything over with them.

I had some lovely stuff done through one of the E European traders some years back. I think it was Matuls but they don't advertise it much. The guy who did it lived in a log cabin in some great forest somewhere. Sorry cant be more specific. I just asked around. I think there is a need for this, bet some enterprising Polish, Czech or Russian founder would go for it. The secret is the patterns...

Might be worth asking Ron what he did with his i suppose.

Yes, the secret is the patterns. There are quite a few bronze foundries in the UK, more than you might think, but if you could go to them with the actual patterns it would be a lot easier.

If you have a pattern, Whitechapel bell foundry or possibly Taylors (Loughborough) Foundry would be my first choices, They are used to big cope and core castings!

Sadly, patterns of that complexity and bloomin hard to come by, or I'd be doing it as a sideline. However, as I'm casting anvils at Telford, I'll ask the nice people there. Plenty of retired pattern makers there and I seem to recall that part of the world have been doing it for a while....

Ron has contacted me to say he will be doing a run of castings pretty soon.
The prices are the same as his last set, I can send the word doc to anyone interested.

Dennis of Daegrad Tools does some great metalwork. There were some lovely traders at Hastings selling cauldrons and tripods - price probably all depends on exchange rates. If you go to Hastings either take loads of money and only buy things you really need or don't take any money at all - it's a real market of temptations :)

I emailed him a couple of weeks ago, not heard anything back. Had heard earlier from him. Is he still talking to you?
