Yes. I'm not sure if they were used in England, it's a bit after my period.

True lacquer is from the far east. So the Dutch might have had it from the late 16th cent but here there is other stuff possible. You can add pigment to varnish for example, we certainly did that on other stuff. No so sure about armour.
