Early 14th century arms

Postby Graham Ashford » Sun Dec 29, 2013 5:53 pm

Hi there

Thought I'd share this recent pair of arms I have finished. I thoroughly enjoy making this early 14th century armour as it brings to mind just how terrifying and awesome the French armies must have been to the, generally, significantly smaller English armies. The French knights must have looked terrifying to the English as they prepared for the oncoming events. I realise that the archers made a significant impact in the battles and afterwards in legend, but watching the sheer weight of the French army in their state of the art, highly decorated, armour must have been a sight to behold.

Either way, enough of me warbling on, needless to say I enjoyed this build and am happy with the result, as always I welcome any comments and thoughts on how to improve. Mild steel with brass edging and a blued rondel for the couter wing.

All the best and have a good new year.

Graham

Stuart

Nope not for me, I do about 30 years on from these.

Thanks for your kind words. Improvements generally always come one way or another either in finish, speed of production, leather work, buckles, hinge making etc ... I'm happy with the general shape though ... but there is always room for improvement on pretty much anything ... but still thanks for your kind words :)

Beautiful work, Graham. That blue contrasting with the brass really adds to the piece.
